"Like to Be Touched"

Judy Alison- Ceramic Artist

The timeless, earthy quality of these ceramic pieces is inspired by nature as well as by the long history of human creative spirit. Blessing Bowls are pinch pots, shaped by hand without the use of a pottery wheel. The artist has designed each piece to be touched and held.

Paper slips were available for visitors to write on and place in a ceramic vessel near the entry of Hope Abbey. These thoughts, names, and prayers were burned in a special closing ceremony.

Especially striking was the cairn of ceramic stones in the center of the exhibit. Inspired by a visit to Mount Sinai in 1995, the collection of stones for memorials is possibly the most ancient human tradition.

Blessing Bowls may be purchased from the artist for $50. Email: jalison-at-epud.net

The Textures of Memory exhibit was open through July 16, at the Hope Abbey Mausoleum.
