Marilyn Robert - Fiber Artist

"My mother, Helen Robert, was a uncommonly courageous and serene woman. She wrapped her family in love, nurturing all of us. Mom was an accomplished quiltmaker, using bits and pieces of cloth to sew traditional, prizewinning quilts, which she then gave to her family.

I chose to work with bamboo for its qualities of strength and endurance, to use scraps from my own work, and most importantly I chose to wrap the bamboo, acknowledging the sustaining, working metaphor of repetition, and my mother's example.

The title of this piece, Love You, has particular significance for me and my nine brothers and sisters."

Marilyn Robert

The Textures of Memory art exhibit was held from June 2 to July 16, 2006, at the Hope Abbey Mausoleum.
